Test Code LAB1234567 Calculi (Stone) Analysis

Important Note

ARUP's test code: 0099460

Useful For

Determine composition of calculi.

Performing Laboratory

ARUP Laboratories

Specimen Required

Collect calculi. Air-dry calculi and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Larger calculi specimens may be transferred to a clean, empty urine cup (150 mL) or similar container.

NOTE: Calculi specimens transported in liquid or contaminated with blood require special handling which will delay analysis.  Specimens that are wrapped in tape or embedded in wax will delay or prevent analysis and should not be submitted.

Specimen Stability Information

Transport:

  • Room temperature perferred.
  • Also acceptable: Frozen or refrigerated.

Stability:

  • Ambient: Indefinitely
  • Refrigerated: Indefitnitely
  • Frozen: Indefinitely

Reject Due To

Any collection or shipping container with a needle attached.

Interpretation

Calculi are the products of physiological processes that yield crystalline compounds in a matrix of biological compounds and blood.  Matrix components are not reported. The clinically significant crystalline components identified in calculi specimens are reported.  Gross description may not be consistant with the composition determined by FTIR analysis.
