Additional Information

Use:  Diagnosis and evaluation of myeloma, macroglobulinemia of Waldenström, lymphoma, amyloidosis.
A serum electrophoresis should be reviewed concurrently if one has not been recently studied. In nonselective glomerular proteinuria, the urine electrophoretic pattern is often a nonspecific one which may be called “mirror image” to that of the serum.

Note: The UPE is a generic pattern only, separating albumin and globulin resulted as % of total protein. If a monoclonal peak is present, it will be noted as "present". The UIFE (immunofixation of urine) provides a specific identification of a paraprotein, if present.
