BBL Red Cap Culturette II Swabs
- Roll sterile swab over the conjunctiva before topical medications are applied
- If culturing both eyes, use separate swabs
- Label specimen with 2 patient identifiers, date and time of collection & site of collection.
Specimen Stability Information
Transport to laboratory as soon as possible
24 hours room temperature for BBL Culture Swabs
48 hours room temperature or refrigerated if an Eswab is use

- Lacking Two Patient Identifiers:
- 1-Patient's First & Last name
- 2-Patient's Date of Birth
- BBL Culture Swabs over 24 hrs old
- Eswab over 48 hrs old

Monday through Sunday
Preliminary reports are usually available at 24 hours. Cultures that are no growth are held 3 days before final report is released.
If reflex testing is required, test results will be delayed.
