Yellow (Gold) top tube (SST)- (Preferred sample for outpatients)
Specimen Minimum Volume
0.5 ml
Neonatal minimum volume: 0.4 mL whole blood
Specimen Stability Information
Centrifuge collection tube and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection
Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C
If centrifuge not available, the sample must be drawn in a gray sodium fl (NaF) tube
If a NaF tube is used, other chemistries may not be able to be analyzed
NaF is for glucose and lactic acid only
