Additional Information

Used to establish the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, evaluate disorders of carbohydrate metabolism; acidosis and ketoacidosis; dehydration, coma, hypoglycemia, insulinoma or neuroglycopenia

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

Centrifuge collection tube and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection
Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C

 

If centrifuge not available, the sample must be drawn in a gray sodium fl (NaF) tube

If a NaF tube is used, other chemistries may not be able to be analyzed

NaF is for glucose and lactic acid only

Quantity not sufficient (QNS)

Lack of Two Patient Identifiers:

         1-Patient's First & Last name 

         2-Patient's Date of Birth
