Additional Information

Differential diagnosis of hepatitis.  Presence of IgM antibody to hepatitis A virus is good evidence for acute hepatitis A.  The Hepatitis A Virus is primarily transmitted person-to-person via fecal contamination and oral ingestion, usually under conditions of poor personal hygiene.  Some Hepatitis A outbreaks have occurred in Day Care Centers, via restaurant food handlers and large picnics or pot lucks.


Note:  The Jackson County Health Department (or other health entities) may order STAT HAVMs in the interest of public health.   This needs to be clearly communicated to all parties:  laboratory information, ordering personnel, as well as testing personnel (see “Specimen Required”). Use orange JCHD State Hepatitis Form.
