Additional Information

Cholesterol measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and relate directly to coronary heart disease risk.  Cholesterol is also used in the diagnosis of metabolic disorders involving lipids and lipoproteins.  Total cholesterol concentration depends on many factors including age, gender, diet, physical activity, liver disease and other metabolic disorders

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

Centrifuge and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection

Primary tube: Spun SST stable 24 hours at 2° to 8° C

Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C
