Additional Information

Screen for abnormalities of urine, diagnosis and management of renal diseases, urinary tract infection, urinary tract neoplasms, systemic diseases and inflammatory or neoplastic diseases adjacent to the urinary tract.

Limitations:  Insufficient volume, less than 2 mL may limit the extent of procedures performed.  Metabolites of Pyridium may interfere with the dipstick reactions by producing color interference.  (dipstick not performed in the UMIC test) Survival of WBCs is decreased by low osmolality, alkalinity and lack of refrigeration.  Formed lements in the urine including casts disintegrate rapidly; therefore, the specimen should be analyzed as soon as possible after collection.

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

Specimen stable for 24 hours when refrigerated at 2-8*C

Reasons for Rejection

Quantity not sufficient (QNS)

Lacking Two Patient Identifiers:

         1-Patient's First & Last name

         2-Patient's Date of Birth

QNS- Quantity Not Sufficient

Specimen at room temperature over 2 hours.

Specimen refrigerated over 24 hours (less than 6 hours preferred)

Improper collection, "dirty catch" urine samples are not appropriate for testing.
