Test Code LAB5171 Immunofixation, Serum
Useful For
Use: Primary methodology used for Immunotyping is the MiniCap capillary electrophoresis. Charged molecules are separated by their electrophoretic mobility in an alkaline buffer with a specific pH in tubes with internal diameter of 100 um. Separation also occurs according to the electrolyte pH and electroosmotic flow.
For additional information, the immunofixation by gel ELP may be used. The immunofixation electrophoresis method is a combination of two techniques, gel electrophoresis followed by immunofixation, where an antigen is fixed” in a gel by an antibody through the formation of an insoluble immune complex. IFE has become a useful clinical tool for examination and identification of various serum protein abnormalities, primarily monoclonal ammopathies.
Test includes typing of monoclonal proteins for light chain specificity.
