Specimen Required

Specimen:  Semen from ejaculate specimen, Clean, dry container.  Keep warm.

Sterile Collection Cup

 

Instructions to Patient for Collecting Semen Specimens:

1. At least 3 days must have lapsed since the last sperm emission (ejaculation).

2. Collect the specimen directly into a sterilized container with a lid.

3. DO NOT COLLECT THE SPECIMEN IN A CONDOM.

4. The specimen should be brought to the laboratory within 1 hour of collection time.

5. A specimen brought from home should be kept at room temperature.  It must be kept from being overly warm or from being chilled in order to insure the best examination results.

 

Physician will usually provide instruction for collection. 
Specimen quality may be best when collected in physician’s office or laboratory by masturbation.  Alternately, it may be obtained at patient’s house by coitus interruptus or masturbation and delivered to laboratory as soon as possible. 
Patient should be instructed to bring specimen to laboratory within 1 hour after collection, maintaining warmth during transport.

1.0 ml
