Additional Information
Benzodiazepines are among the most widely used drugs in the
world, being used as anti-convulsants, preanesthetics, anti-anxiety
aids and sedative-hypnotics. Librium (chlordiazepoxide) and
Valium (diazepam) are examples of this class of drugs.
Although when used alone they have a low level of toxicity,
combination with ethanol, analgesics, other sedative-hypnotics,
tricyclic anti-depressants, anti-psychotic agents or
barbiturates
greatly increase the likelihood of serious intoxication.
