Methodology

EIA: enzyme immunoassay

Specimen Requirements

Stool (minimum volume:  0.5 cc)

Sterile Collection Cup


Fresh stool, liquid to solid. A sample may be collected into a clean, dry container, free of detergent residue or obtained from a diaper.

Day(s) Test Set Up

Monday through Sunday 

Performed daily; turnaround time approximately 2 hours.

87425 – Infectious agent antigen detection by enzyme immunoassay technique, qualitative or semiquantitative, multiple-step method; rotavirus. 

Additional Information

Use: For use in the diagnosis of Rotavirus infection.
 

Limitation: Specimens containing high levels of blood may result in an invalid test result.  Testing of an additional specimen is recommended under such circumstances. 

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

Transport to Microbiology on wet ice as soon as possible.

Can be stored in refrigerator up to 72 hours.  For longer storage, freeze at -20°C.  Repeated freeze/thaw will cause
deterioration.
