RRMC:
Lithium Heparin Green top tube
Outpatient clients MUST draw SST
TRMC:
Plain Red top tube No SST or PST
For TROUGH level, collect 15 minutes before the next dose. Pre
and Post labeling of samples is critical.
Please provide last dose information.

Additional Information
Used to monitor therapeutic levels. Vancomycin has
regained clinical popularity for the treatment of
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and
antibiotic-associated diarrhea due to Clostridium
difficile.
The drug is otonephrotoxic and the toxicity may be synergistic with
that of aminoglycosides.
Renal and auditory function should be monitored.
Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability
Centrifuge and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection
Primary tube: Spun SST stable 48 hours at 2° to 8° C
Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C
