RRMC:  

Yellow (Gold) top tube (SST)

Plain Red top tube

Lithium Heparin Green top tube
 

Specimen should be collected just prior to next dose

Pre and post labeling of sample is critical
Outpatient clients MUST draw SST
 

TRMC:  Plain Red top tube  No SST or PST

 

Specimen should be collected 15 minutes prior to next dose

Pre and post labeling of sample is critical

Outpatient clients MUST draw Plain Red top tube

Additional Information

Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic whose activity is similar to that of Gentamicin against gram negative bacteria.  Tobramycin exhibits a narrow therapeutic range, which makes its use hazardous, especially in patients with impaired renal function.

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

RRMC: 
Centrifuge collection tube within two hours of draw. 

Separated serum or spun SSTstable for
48 hours refrigerated (eight hours room temperature).

 

TRMC:

Centrifuge collection tube and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection
Spun SST is stable for 48 hours at 2° to 8° C

Reasons for Rejection

Icterus

Lipemia

Hemolysis

Quantity not sufficient (QNS)

Lack of Two Patient Identifiers:

         1-Patient's First & Last name 

         2-Patient's Date of Birth
