Specimen should be collected at the completion of a 60-minute infusion

Plain Red top tube  No SST or PST

Additional Information

Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic whose activity is similar to that of Gentamicin against gram negative bacteria.  Tobramycin exhibits a narrow therapeutic range which makes its use hazardous, especially in patients with impaired renal functions.

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

RRMC:

Centrifuge collection tube within 2 hours of collection

Stable 8 hours at room temperature

Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C

 

TRCH:

Centrifuge collection tube and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection

Serum stable for 48 hours at 2° to 8° C
