Test Code LAB348 Urinalysis with Microscopic
Performing Laboratory
Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center / Asante Three Rivers Medical Center/Asante Ashland Community Hospital / Asante White City Laboratory
Specimen Minimum Volume
Greater than 12 mL volume is preferred but less will be accepted if necessary with volume note.
A fresh first morning clean voided specimen is preferred; however, a specimen can be collected at any time.
Random clean catch or cath specimens are acceptable.
Billing Code
2051316
Methodology
RRMC and TRMC: Automated testing using the iRICELL 2000 system.
Macroscopic testing is performed using test strips which are read by a dual wavelength reflectance system, specific gravity is determined by measuring the refractive index. Color is measured by transmitted light and clarity is measured by scattered light.
Microscopic testing is performed using an automated particle imaging system with manual review when indicated.
AACH: Automated by dipstick reader and manual microscopic.
Specimen Requirements
Urine: clean catch, 12 mL (cc). A smaller volume can compromise results.
A mid-stream clean catch or cath specimen is preferred.
NOTE: Grossly bloody, pyridium, and other substances may interfere with routine urinalysis.
Performing Department
Urinalysis
Day(s) Test Set Up
Monday through Sunday
ASAP - 2 hours after receipt of specimen in lab
STAT - 1 hour after receipt of specimen in lab
See “Additional Information.” If reflex testing is required, test results will be delayed.

Additional Information
Screens for kidney and urinary tract diseases as well as some systemic and metabolic disorders of the body.
Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability
Specimen is stable 24 hours when refrigerated at 2-8° C.
Reasons for Rejection
Quantity not sufficient (QNS)
Specimen at room temp over 2 hours
Lacking Two Patient Identifiers:
1-Patient's First & Last name
2-Patient's Date of Birth
Specimen at room temperature over 2 hours.
Specimen refrigerated over 24 hours (less than 6 hour preferred)
Inadequate labeling
Improper collection, "dirty catch" urine sample are not appropriate for testing.
