Additional Information

The Activated Clotting Time (ACT) measures fresh whole blood’s ability to clot when activated by surface contact.  It focuses on the intrinsic coagulation pathway and is helpful in monitoring heparin therapy.  This test is particularly utilized for patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass and stent procedures.

Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability

Performed on inpatients only at the Point of Care on designated nursing units following heparin or Angiomax interventional therapy.
