Evaluating erythropoietic activity. 
Increased in acute and chronic hemorrhage, hemolytic anemias. Evaluating erythropoietic response to antianemic therapy.  Demonstration of an increase in the number of circulating reticulocytes provides reliable and inexpensive evidence of increased red cell production.

Neonatal minimum volume: 0.25 mL whole blood in a lavender microtainer (BDMap microtainer preferred)
