Lithium Heparin Green top tube
TRMC:
Plain Red top tube No SST or PST
Three previous doses are recommended before blood levels are obtained
For PEAK level, draw 30 minutes after complete infusion if dose is given I.V. (60 minutes infusion time)
Draw 30 minutes after injection if dose is given I.M.
Pre and post labeling of samples is critical. Please provide last dose information.

Additional Information
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which exhibits high action against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It exhibits a narrow therapeutic range which makes it hazardous, especially in patients with impaired renal function.
Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability
Centrifuge and refrigerate within 2 hours of collection
Primary tube: Spun SST stable 48 hours at 2° to 8° C
Serum stable 48 hours if aliquoted and refrigerated at 2° to 8° C
