Culturette swab for nose. Calcium alginate or Dacron flexible shaft np swab for nasopharynx

NP: Pass np swab through nose into the posterior nasopharynx. Rotate swab on the nasopharyngeal membrane for a few seconds and gently remove it.

Nose: Collect swab specimen of anterior nares by inserting swab at least 1 cm into the nares, rotate and leave in place 10 seconds before removal.

Ambient – Transport to laboratory as soon as possible after collection in transport media or culturette. Do not
refrigerate. Prevent drying.

Monday through Sunday

Performed daily. Preliminary report: 24 hours; final report: 48 hours. If reflex testing is required, test results will be delayed.
