Additional Information
Use: Evaluate the concentrating and excretory power of the
kidneys. The specific gravity of urine indicates the
relative
proportions of dissolved solid components to the total volume
of
the specimen. It reflects the relative degree of
concentration or dilution of the specimen. Knowledge of
the
specific gravity is needed in interpretation of the results of
most
tests in urinalysis. Specific gravity must be interpreted
in
light of presence or absence of glycosuria and/or
proteinuria.
