Additional Information
Evaluation of meningitis, neoplastic involvement of meninges, other neurological disorders. Diagnosis of neuroglycopenia, even in presence of normal plasma glucose. CSF glucose may be elevated in diabetic hyperglycemia, epidemic encephalitis, CNS syphilis or increased serum glucose. CSF glucose will be slightly decreased in subarachnoid hemorrhage or nonbacterial meningoencephalitis. Significantly decreased CSF glucose is seen in various forms of meningitis, tumor of the meninges or sarcoidosis.
