Specimen collection is performed by the Cardiopulmonary Department by appointment only. Contact Cardiopulmonary at 541-789-5049.
Specimen: sweat (prefer volume: 50 µL)
Carried out in Cardiopulmonary Department by Special Studies Technicians.

Testing performed Monday through Friday, A.M. shift. Results immediately reported to Cardiopulmonary Department.

Additional Information
Use: Patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) have a normal
sweat rate and volume with an elevated concentration of sodium
chloride and potassium. Sweat chloride provides the greatest
discrimination between CF and normal patients and is the most
frequently used test for CF diagnosis in the U.S.
Specimen Transport Temperature and Stability
Room temperature. Transport to laboratory immediately for testing.
Collected Sweat sample is stable 72 hours if stored in a tightly capped microtube
