Screening culture for the presence of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) (Streptococcus agalactiae) in vaginal-rectal swabs collected from pregnant women.

Swabs of lower vagina (not cervical) and anorectum.
VAGAN is the specimen source mnemonic.
May be collected with dual BD CultureSwabs (one vaginal and one rectal)
or an Eswab by first swabbing the vagina and then the rectum with a single swab.
