The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) is used to direct red cells sensitized (coated) with antibody and/or complement. The test is utilized in the investigation of hemolytic disease of the newborn, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, transfusion reactions, and red cell sensitization caused by drugs.
