Useful For
The test involves both Direct Coombs and Indirect Coombs (antibody screen).
The Direct Coombs is used to detect red cells sensitized or coated with antibody and /or complement in vivo. The test is utilized in the investigation of hemolytic disease of the newborn, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, transfusion reactions and RBC sensitization caused by drugs. The antibody screen may be ordered in conjunction to determine if unbound antibody is also present in the plasma.
