Test Code LAB1230221 Stool Extended Bacterial Pathogen Panel by PCR
Useful For
When ordered this testing will include the Bacterial Pathogen Panel by PCR (LAB1230218).
This is a very sensitive and specific test for Vibrio (including parahaemolyticus, vulnificus, and cholerae), Yersinia enterocolitica, Plesiomonas shigelloides, and Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC).
NOTE: ETEC is the organism commonly associated with “traveler’s diarrhea” and does not produce Shiga toxin and is not associated with bloody diarrhea or HUS. Specimens positive for Yersinia and Vibrio will be cultured and the resulting isolates sent to OPHL for typing. PCR testing is more sensitive than stool culture, so organisms from samples with positive PCR may not always be recoverable
