48 hours room temperature or refrigerated at 2°-8° C if an Eswab is used

  • Lacking Two Patient Identifiers:
    • 1-Patient's First & Last name 
    • 2-Patient's Date of Birth
  • Unsuitable specimens include:
    • Cervical swab
    • Endocervical swab
    • Lochia
    • Vaginal or vulval swab
    • Urethral swab
    • Perineal swab
    • Bronchioalveolar lavage (unprotected)
    • Endotracheal aspirate
    • Nasopharyngeal swab
    • Sputum (induced or expectorated)
    • Prostatic or seminal fluid
    • Tracheostomy aspirate
    • Urine from bladder or catheter
    • Stool (unless for infant botulism or malabsorption syndrome).
  • Do not use swabs for fluid specimens
