Test Code LAB115 Pre-Albumin
Useful For
Pre-albumin, also known as thyroxine-binding globulin and transthyretin, is a stable circulating glycoprotein synthesized in the liver. Its concentration is typically 100-fold lower than albumin. Its short half life of approximately 2 days makes it a sensitive indicator of any changes affecting its synthesis and catabolism; therefore, this rapid turnaround has been shown to be an indicator and monitoring tool for protein-calorie malnutrition, liver disease and acute inflammation.
